We spent the past weekend here. Initially we were unsure of what it'd be like, as we rarely stay at any place not part of a big chain (like Premier Inn, Ramada, etc), but this doubt was quickly put to rest. The room we had was a great size, elegantly decorated and with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was also large, with separate bath and shower units, and a marble finishing that made it feel very premium. Note: we stayed in the 'business centre' building, which I believe is different in decor to the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was included with our rate- I think on most days you can order a la carte from the menu (their Eggs Benedict were very well cooked), but on Sunday they had put out a buffet style hot breakfast. You also have access to a continental buffet, I especially enjoyed the wealth of healthy options (as well as fruit, you can get seeds, nuts). The staff were also friendly and always happy to help. The swimming pool facility wasn't great- I think there was an issue with the heater when I stayed that meant the pool was cold- but it's a good facility to have nonetheless.

Second visit since refurb. Had my 50th here 6 yrs ago. Food was ok'ish then. On this occassion, had drinks, overnight stay and breakfast as friend was visiting the city. The wrong room was given after booking but another was offered which was satisfactory however, more care can be taken with removing cobwebs above bedposts. Tv remote didn't work and a shower gel top was found in the middle of the room? Bathroom was clean. Breakfast was very good - choice of continental starter then full English. The staff were friendly and helpful and dealt with our concerns with minimal fuss.

I booked a room here on internet and the check in, just half an hour later, was fast, friendly and completely uncomplicated. The room self and the bathroom were both clean and spacious. The beds very comfortable. All the around the staff is very friendly. The best is that the hotel bar is open 24/7, which leaded to a longer night up than expected and an oversleep on the check out time. But that as well wasn't a problem, just leaded to a good laugh with the Lady at the reception.

Booked the restaurant for a baby shower. Staff were extremely accommodating from the very beginning planning stages. Nothing was ever too much for them even with all the changes we made to plans. On the day they went above and beyond. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was outstanding. The staff accommodated to our every need We booked the afternoon tea which was lovely and our tea and coffee was always refilled. They even gave mum to be a card and free mocktail which was a lovely touch. Would defo reccomend this place.

The downstairs is excellent, very clean, bright and airy, however, this is where it ends, the corridors are dark and dingy, grey in colour, there are step guards missing and absolutely no lifts. The room we had was a large double room, the bed was very good, a little hard for my liking but that's not the hotels fault. Very dated decor, tiger print wallpaper, grubby off white paint especially by the light switches, and no toilet brush. The only other thing about the room was that it was very very warm. The radiator was off so I don't know where the heat was coming from. On the plus side, all staff we met were very helpful and courteous, always with a smile. The chef was good, happy and chatty. During our stay my wife suffered a medical issue and the night staff were brilliant. A huge thanks from both of us. Overall we would stay again and would recommend the hotel.

Made a booking by mistake having read the disappointing reviews we were very pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel was. The staff were very helpful and polite. Our room was very clean. Breakfast was really good. Couldn't ask for better. The decor was nice. Bathroom was also very good. I'm not sure what people expect but our stay was a very enjoyable experience. Will gladly stay there again.

The location is very good for a short break. We have enjoyed the hotel very much although it is a little tired and in need of a little tlc. The staff are fantastic and could not do enough for us. We stayed in room 53 which was nice but again could have done with some tlc. We decided to use the pool which was included in our stay. The pool was very cold so we could not stay in it very long. Dinner was very nice and well presented. Breakfast was a buffet style but the food was only luke warm so a little disappointing after the dinner the night before. Overall the stay was very good and we would come again.

Was there for a wedding reception on May 25th, couldn't fault the room, food or service. Some of the bar staff didn't seem 100% to be there working and could do with smiling a bit. 1 staff member at the bar was really nice and had recently broken her phone, hope she got it fixed, Haha. Reason for 4 stars is we stayed the night in a 1 of the rooms, which are a bit dated and tiny. Some floor boards had collapsed by the window. Had the window open all night because it was really hot in there, they had the heating on even though it was a really nice day weather wise. Ensuite bathroom was tiny. Had to use toilet sat sideways as was against towel rail. A lick of paint can hide some things but the place is just a bit dated and needs renovating.
